The City of Ecorse plans to develop a Greenway along Ecorse Creek as part of the City’s most important revitalization project, the 60-acre, former Great Lakes Steel brownfield site. Plans for this former industrial site include an ambitious mixed-use development including housing, some retail, office, and park space, and the Greenway as a major feature. In addition to the Greenway along the half-mile main trunk of Ecorse Creek (connecting the Lincoln Park Greenway, Council Point Park and five inland cities to the Detroit River at Dingell Park), the Greenway will also follow the North Fork of Ecorse Creek on the City’s western border to Outer Drive, connecting back to the north end of the Lincoln Park Greenway and to Detroit’s southwestern tip. Additional Greenways are being considered for Outer Drive, Jefferson Avenue, Salliote St. and Visger Rd. The Ecorse Greenway will link into the Downriver Linked Greenway Initiative which combines greenway plans from 21 different communities into one Master Plan.
